An Authentic Adolescent Montessori School

Currently Enrolling for 6th, 7th and 8th Grade

Welcome!

At The School of Harvest, we believe learning doesn’t have to stay inside four walls.

For early adolescents, learning is about connection — with the land, with one another, and with the world around them.

Rooted East of the River in Washington, D.C., our school is a Center for Study and Work, where Montessori principles come alive in an urban setting. With an outdoor farm, hands-on learning labs, and an intimate indoor classroom, students grow through meaningful work and deep community.

We invite you to come experience what it means to learn in the city — where Montessori meets the soil, and early adolescence is respected, nurtured, and celebrated.

An Adolescent Montessori School

Early adolescence is a time of deep transition—when young people are discovering who they are and seeking their place in the world.

Montessori for Adolescents honors this season by offering real work, purposeful learning, and a community rooted in respect and responsibility. Students explore independently, solve problems in collaboration, and begin to take ownership of their journey.

In our village-style school, learning is not confined to the classroom.
It’s in the garden, in the kitchen, in conversation, and in service.

Here, students are contributors, collaborators, and co-creators of their own growth.

An Intentionally Small Community

Our learning spaces blend a single indoor classroom with expansive outdoor environments gardens, pathways, and gathering spots designed for movement, reflection, and hands-on work. But the classroom doesn’t end there: all of DC is our learning space.

At The School of Harvest, students don’t just learn about the world.
They learn with it.

Our partnership with Washington Parks and People is central to our mission. Using their farm and community spaces, we are able to bring our curriculum to life—together rooting learning deeply in land stewardship, community projects, real-world engagement, and liberation.

A Place for All

At The School of Harvest, we welcome students from all backgrounds and identities. Every person who walks through our doors is given full access to the opportunities, support, and community we offer.

But beyond inclusion, we’re committed to belonging.

Here, every voice is valued, every experience matters, and collaboration and listening create the foundation for growth—together.

“One of the most vital ways we sustain ourselves is by building communities of resistance, places where we know we are not alone.” --bell hooks

Our School

The School of Harvest is a member of the Wildflower Network of schools, in Washington, D.C. Wildflower is an ecosystem of decentralized Montessori micro-schools that support children, teachers, and parents. Wildflower aspires to give all children and families the opportunity to choose high-quality, beautiful learning environments as they follow life’s unfolding journey.

The needs of mankind are universal. Our means of meeting them create the richness and diversity of the planet. The Montessori child should come to relish the texture of that diversity.
