An Authentic Adolescent Montessori School
Currently Enrolling for 6th, 7th and 8th Grade
Welcome!
At The School of Harvest, we believe that learning doesn’t have to happen within four walls. In fact, we know that for early adolescents, it’s about connection — with the land, with each other, and with the world around them. Located in Washington, D.C., East of the River, our school serves as a Center for Work and Study, where Montessori principles come to life in an urban environment. Our urban farm and outdoor learning labs, alongside our indoor one-classroom setup, serve as essential spaces for student growth and hands-on learning.
We invite you to visit and experience the dream of learning in the city — where Montessori meets the urban landscape, and the journey of early adolescence is respected and celebrated.
An Adolescent Montessori School

We recognize that early adolescence is a time of great transition—when young people are not only discovering who they are but also seeking a deeper understanding of their place in the world. Montessori for Adolescents embraces this period by encouraging students to engage actively with their learning, explore independently, and solve problems collaboratively. This approach fosters self-direction, allowing students to take responsibility for their education, while also promoting critical thinking and decision-making.
In our unique environment, students develop not only academic skills but also life skills that prepare them for adulthood. The curriculum is designed to meet the developmental needs of adolescents, helping them connect what they learn with real-world applications. At the same time, the close-knit community—comprised of peers, teacher-leaders, and community partners—cultivates a sense of belonging, mutual respect, and shared responsibility. We build a "village" around each student, supporting their growth and development from all angles. Together, we create a space where students are not just learners—they are contributors, collaborators, and active participants in their own learning journey.
An Intentionally Small Community
Our learning spaces are intentionally designed to be dynamic and flexible, blending a single indoor classroom with expansive outdoor environments. This setup allows students to engage directly with the land and apply what they’re learning in real-world contexts. Whether in our indoor classroom or outdoor learning lab, these spaces foster collaboration, creativity, and hands-on learning, ensuring students remain connected to both their academic studies and the world around them.
At The School of Harvest, we are not just embedded in the community; we are one with it. Our partnership with Washington Parks and People is central to our mission, as we work together to use their farm and community spaces to bring our programs to life. Students are actively involved in stewarding the land and engaging with real-world projects that bridge classroom learning with meaningful community impact. This collaboration allows us to create deep, personalized connections between students, their families, and teacher-leaders, fostering a sense of shared responsibility and interconnectedness. Through this approach, each student’s academic and personal growth is supported, and their role in the community is strengthened.

A Place for All
We welcome students from all races, colors, nationalities, and ethnic backgrounds. We ensure that every student is given equal access to the rights, privileges, and programs our school offers. We are committed to non-discrimination in all aspects of our school, including admissions, educational policies, scholarships, and other school programs.
More than just inclusivity, we believe in creating a space where every student feels they belong and that their contributions truly matter. This sense of belonging is foundational to our community. Here, students are encouraged to collaborate, listen, and grow together, knowing that their voices and experiences are valued.

Our School

The School of Harvest is a member of the Wildflower Network of schools, in Washington, D.C. Wildflower is an ecosystem of decentralized Montessori micro-schools that support children, teachers, and parents. Wildflower aspires to give all children and families the opportunity to choose high-quality, beautiful learning environments as they follow life’s unfolding journey.
The needs of mankind are universal. Our means of meeting them create the richness and diversity of the planet. The Montessori child should come to relish the texture of that diversity.
